MEDC Contributes $5,000 to Project Lead the Way

Montrose High School’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is seeking to match a recently presented $5000 check from the Montrose Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).  PLTW is a hands-on program that emphasizes math and science in technology-based and engineering related careers.  MHS/PLTW has set a goal this year to purchase a Rapid Prototype machine using grants, donations from the community and the MEDC contribution. The total cost of the Rapid Prototype machine is $15,000.  Anyone wishing to donate toward the match should make checks payable to Montrose High School – PLTW PO Box 10,500 Montrose, CO 81402 and are greatly appreciated!   PLTW hopes to have the matching funds in hand by March 15th in order to have this machine in place for next year’s classes.  PLTW recently purchased a laser engraver using last year’s donations and Carl Perkins funds.  Projects made using the new equipment are not only a teaching tool, but these creative items can be sold to help sustain the program.  MEDC has supported the PLTW program since its inception as a means of workforce development.  For more information regarding PLTW, please contact Brian Simpson, PLTW Instructor at 249-6636.

MHS Student Council Making A Difference

Montrose High School Student Council participated in the “Stuff the Stocking” program for the Montrose Partners organization.  Thanks to the generosity of MHS staff and students, 50 children in Montrose will have a better Christmas.  They had everything from toys to clothes to candy to school supplies to gift cards.  Even a bike– all of the toys filled up an entire pickup truck and we even had to put some stuff in the cab.

Aug 10, 2009. A bit of good news — due to prudent budgeting on the bond projects, the careful use of fees in lieu collected, state construction grants, interest free QZAB,  and a $432,000 Department of Local Affairs Energy and Impact grant we have been able to consolidate services for our students, staff and community.
