Montrose High School Sophomore Earns
Silver Medal in National FCCLA Competition
Montrose, Colorado. Travis (T.J.) Speck earned a
Silver Medal at the National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America,
Inc. (FCCLA), conference in Anaheim
California. FCCLA is a
nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and
women in family and consumer sciences education in public and private school
through grade 12.
T.J.,
a sophomore at Montrose
High School, competed in
the Focus on Children category.
The
event required a service project, a display board, and a speech. The
service project was an evening of babysitting provided for the children of Montrose High School faculty members during the
2006 holiday season. The evening included many arts and crafts projects,
dinner, and a visit from Santa Claus with photos made for parents. T.J. was
the Santa. For his speech, he rewrote a portion of, “T'was
the Night Before Christmas.”
At this time, T.J. is considering college training to work as a Fishery
specialist.
He was also recently elected to be the FCCLA Vice President of the Scenic West
area of Colorado.
He will be attending Leadership training in Denver for that position. T.J. is the son of Kathe
Speck, a SPED aide at Centennial
Middle School in Montrose,
and Tim Speck of Eagle.
