LUCK O’ THE IRISH TO YA…
Happy March! Here are some of the exciting things coming up:
READING FOCUS: As you read with your children remember these things…
When 2 vowels go walking…. The first one does the talking (ex. Boat, rail)
If there is an “e” at the end – be bosses the other vowel around to say his name ( ex. bone, bite, late)
Chunk words into smaller pieces (ex. Hundreds – hun dreds / leapfrog – leap frog)
If one vowel sound doesn’t work…. Try the other sound(s) <first the long/short of that letter, but if that doesn’t work – try other vowel sounds>
If there is an “r” next to the vowel – you usually won’t hear the vowel.
Blend the consonants together for one sound (ex. Floor, growl, think)
Watch for vowel combinations – ow, oi, oy, ou, aw
Finally….. please remember to THINK about what you have read – if it doesn’t make sense READ IT OVER.
Most importantly - Have fun!!!!!
