*Attention Parents: Room Parent Needed for 3rd Quarter

January 10, 2007

Dear Parents,

We’re looking forward to the beginning of second semester and many exciting activities and learning opportunities in fourth grade. During the first few weeks there will be some movement of children in reading and math as we try to adjust to their needs based on recent MAPS testing. We’re proud of the progress being made by our students and their high rankings in both MAPS and CSAP. Thank you, once again, for supporting education in so many ways.

Report cards will come home in this week’s folder. Please sign and return it with your child. To improve communication, I’ll be sending a weekly Thursday folder with office mailings, messages, and monthly newsletters from Dr. Tomlin and myself. Please sign the folder and return it every Friday. This will let me know that you received the contents.

Our class is planning to sponsor the Dunk Tank at Winter Carnival which takes place the evening of Friday, February 1st. This event is a big fundraiser for PAC and a family tradition at Cottonwood. Please plan on helping with the carnival or just coming for an evening of fishy foods and wonderful fun at our “Under the Sea” celebration.

Another important event during second semester is the overnight fieldtrip to Anasazi Cultural Heritage Center and Mesa Verde National Park. We plan to leave from school early on Thursday, May 15th and return at about 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16th. Parents are invited to help plan, organize and chaperone this trip. The first organizational meeting is scheduled for 3:15 p.m., Thursday, January 17th. A letter of interest will be sent home in February with more details for those wishing to volunteer.

Parent Conferences are scheduled for February 19th, 20th, and 21st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. These will be Child-Led Conferences with each student presenting their portfolios and discussing some of their goals for the rest of the year. It’s always helpful to schedule as many of these conferences as possible before the actual date; this gives us more time to visit without being rushed. I’ll keep you informed.

We will not be having school on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 21st.  Mark the evening of March 13th on your calendar for P.E. Showcase. Happy New Year!
