Taking care of your new tattoo is very important! Your artist took the time to properly bandage your tattoo to protect it from airborn virises. You should leave the bandage on for a minimum of two hours. It is still a wound and it can still get infected. After you take the bandage off, it is time to wash your tattoo. Use cool water and antibacterial soap(Satin and Provon work best) to clean and wash away any blood, ointment, or left-over ink. Washcloths tend to be too harsh so using your hand to wash it is recommended. If your tattoo feels slimy or slick, then you have probably been oosing plasma and you need to clean as much of it away as possible (When plasma dries on the surface of your skin, it creates scabs.). Do NOT use hydrogen peroxide or any products with alcohol in it to clean your tattoo, these will dry out your tattoo and it needs to stay moist in order to heal. Then pat your tattoo firmly with a clean towl until dry. Afterwords, apply an ointment of your choice to the tattoo. Bacitracin, A&D vitamin enriched lotion, Curel, Tattoo Goo, or H2Ocean work best. Any lotions need to be sentless! <--because they have alcohol in them. Use as directed for 5-7days.

Showering with your new tattoo is perfectly fine, you just don't want to saturate your tattoo. Bathing or hottubing can seriously damage your tattoo, so you should avoid it for at least 2-3weeks. Swimming in a pool, fresh water, or salt water should be avoided for at least 2 weeks as well.

You will also need to protect your tattoo from the sun's untraviolet rays, even after it has healed. Leaving your tattoo to bake can cause it to dramtically fade and damage very quickly.
