Elementary Behavior & Engagement Coaches Team 

Engagement Coaches support students, staff, and school systems in creating safe, inclusive learning environments. Their work centers on building students’ social-emotional and behavioral skills while promoting a culture of shared responsibility. When a student is referred, the goal is to understand their experience and consider how we can adjust the surrounding environment to better support their success—including systems, expectations, and adult interactions—to better support the student’s success. Behavior Coaches offer proactive, collaborative, and targeted support that strengthens school communities and improves outcomes for all students.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct individual check-ins with students and teachers to monitor progress and provide targeted support
• Guide family meetings and collaborate with guardians to review behavior plans, share progress updates, and collaborate on strategies 
• Partner with teachers to design and implement behavior supports and classroom strategies
• Create visual supports (e.g., charts, schedules, trackers) to assist with student regulation and goal-setting
• Track and analyze student intervention data to inform planning and measure effectiveness
• Conduct home visits to support engagement, communication, and intervention plans when appropriate
• Document all student and family interactions in Infinite Campus (IC) within 48 hours
• Provide responsive, school-specific support such as behavior intervention, crisis response, or supervision as needed
• Collaborate with the Behavior Coach team to set goals and priorities based on data and reflection
• Assist in refining team protocols and procedures annually based on data and outcomes
• Support transitions for students moving between schools or entering/exiting the district
• Contribute to the team’s annual impact report, highlighting successes and growth areas
• Help design and evolve professional development offerings based on current trends and needs
• Collaborate with schools to alter and design professional development/trainings that meet the needs of their staff

Caseload

1 Lead Behavior and Engagement Teacher

• 3 Elementary Behavior Coaches (each serving 3-4 schools)
  • Coaching teachers 
  • Managing Tier III individual student plans
  • Providing ongoing professional development

Middle & High School Engagement Centers

The Engagement Center provides tier 2 support within each secondary school for students facing challenges with behavior, grades, or attendance. Under the umbrella of the Safety and Wellness Team, each site features a dedicated classroom led by a certified teacher. We recognize every student’s unique needs and build strong relationships among students, families, educators, and community partners to create a supportive network. Through evidence-based practices like Capturing Kids’ Hearts, Leadworthy, and Restorative Practices, we foster a culture of empathy and respect while promoting academic success, personal growth, and the skills students need to become confident, self-reliant learners.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Tier 2 school-based intervention for students struggling with attendance, behavior, and/or academic performance
• Identify students through data indicators (e.g., 25%+ absenteeism, multiple suspensions, failing grades)
• Serve as a re-engagement/transitional classroom for students returning after extended absences from school
• Support credit recovery for 11th–12th grade students using online platforms like Edgenuity
• Offer academic support, including help with homework, organization, and study skills
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment focused on relationship-building and community
• Deliver social-emotional learning (SEL) through strategies like Restorative Practices and Capturing Kids’ Hearts
• Collaborate with safety team and EC counselor  to connect students and families to community-based resources
• Supervise outdoor and experiential learning opportunities, including field trips
• Enforce eligibility for field trips based on behavior and attendance, not grades
• Promote workforce readiness through skill-building and career-focused opportunities
• Monitor and assess student progress toward personal and academic goals
• Engage families as partners in the student support process
• Collaborate with site-based MTSS teams and contribute to Tier 1 school-wide efforts
• Maintain accurate student grading and credit records in Infinite Campus (Pass/Fail structure)
• Ensure that credit recovery courses are approved, monitored, and completed per district policy
• Coordinate with site administrators and EC counselor on late credit recovery enrollment
• Provide one-on-one counseling and SEL support through the in-house EC counselor
