SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT
Johnson Elementary and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2022-2023.

REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS
School Responsibilities

Johnson Elementary will:

1.Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

 As a Colorado elementary school, all certified staff will attend professional development in the areas of reading and writing as needed and directed by our district.  This training will specifically target effective reading instruction and scientifically based reading research.  In addition, all students will be guaranteed 90+ minutes of teacher-directed reading instruction each day.  Students who are struggling have additional teacher supported intervention time in literacy and/or math. This instruction will occur daily and it will based on regularly collected achievement data.  The interventionist (Title I, ELL, and Resource) and the classroom teacher will collaborate weekly to design lessons based on the needs of the academic students.  Data will be collected using Developmental Reading Assessment 2 (DRA2), Dibels, and Bridges math assessments.

  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held as follows:

    Parent-teacher conferences will be held at the end of the first quarter in October  Parent-teacher conferences will also be held on February.

  2. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:
    Johnson Elementary staff will send state/district standards home with each parent at the beginning of each school year during the enrollment period.  Parents will receive quarterly progress reports regarding each child, which will be discussed at parent-teacher conferences.   Parents will also be given access to their child’s classroom assignments, grades, and academic progress through Parent Portal at www.mcsd.org.  Finally, parents will receive a parent report of their child’s Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS).

  3. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

    Title 1 staff will join the regular education teacher and parent for district parent-teacher conferences in the fall and spring.  Parents are also encouraged to contact Title 1 staff to set up a personal conference whenever deemed necessary or beneficial.  Finally, Title 1 staff will host a parent information night at least once a year where information will be shared and questions will be taken.     “Understanding Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)”

    “School-wide Title 1 Programs-How and Why They Work”

  4. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

Parents of Title 1 students will be invited to visit the Title 1 classroom anytime to participate and/or observe classroom instruction and routine.  Parents will also be encouraged to support their child’s reading instruction at home.  To help parents with this, the following two resource booklets will be distributed at the beginning of the year: “Raising a Reader-Tips for Parents” and “At-Home Activities to Help Your Child Become a Better Reader-A Guide for Parents of Children Grades K to 3”.

Parent Responsibilities
I, as a parent, will support my child’s learning in the following ways:

  • Ensure that my child is punctual and attends school regularly.
  • Support the school in its efforts to maintain proper discipline.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
  • Keep informed about my child’s education and communicate with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.
  • Promote a positive use of my child’s time that includes a regular, daily, quiet time set aside to review and reinforce class work.
  • Read with my child and provide several opportunities to let my child see me read.
  • Encourage my child’s efforts and make myself available for questions and concerns.
  • Ask for help or clarification when I need it.
  • Serve, to the extent possible, on my school’s policy group (Johnson Parent Advisory Council or PAC).

Principal

My name is Kirsten Bloomfield and I am honored to serve the students and families as the proud principal of Johnson Elementary. It is a privilege to work with such a dedicated and professional staff!  At Johnson, we strive to provide a rigorous, standards based curriculum that is differentiated to meet students’ needs. We believe in educating the whole child focusing on academic, social, and emotional growth. 


I began my career by receiving a B.A. degree in Behavioral Sciences with a minor in Special Education from Metropolitan State College of Denver. I then continued my education by receiving an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction: Technology from Grand Canyon University and an additional M.A. in Educational Leadership from Jones University. I spent 12 years holding a variety of jobs in education including; Classroom Teacher (kindergarten, grade 2, grade 3, multi-age grades 2/3), Special Education Teacher, and Health Assistant. I then moved to school administration where I was an Assistant Principal for 3 years and Principal for the past 7 years. 


My husband and I have 4 adult children and 4 granddaughters. In my free time, I love to read, listen to music, spend time with my family, and be outdoors. We love to enjoy all that Montrose has to offer!
