Emergency Communication and Process

Safety/Emergency Communication

Emergency Communication
Our district and schools use the district webpage as the main source of information to disseminate urgent and emergency messages to our parents and community. We also utilize Facebook and Twitter - be sure to follow us! Additionally, we use the SchoolMessenger Communicate system to message parents about safety-related issues, among other things, via email, text, phone.

The SchoolMessenger system uses what you, as a parent or guardian, enter into the Parent Portal registration system under the Notification Preferences tab. Therefore, it is vital families ensure contact information is always up to date within this tab and the boxes are checked for which type of communication you wish to receive where.

Montrose County School District takes safety and security of our staff and students very seriously.  In order to be prepared in the event of an emergency situation at one of our sites, we have created a Notification of Emergency Communication Flow Chart.  This document will show the steps the district will take during an emergency and when and how communication will be shared with our district sites, parents and community.

Emergency Flow Chart
The district's safety plan identifies security programs and measures that focus on prevention, intervention, and crisis response.  Learn about the Standard Response Protocol (Spanish) for responding to school emergencies.

Review our Emergency Situations at School document which describes the types of emergencies that can occur in schools and how families should respond. (Also available in Spanish.)

Emergency Training at MCSD

Safety training for staff and students is an ongoing process every year.  Our schools provide information on our reporting system, Safe2Tell at the beginning of the year and posters are place throughout the buildings and on district webpages.  Our administrators and staff have been receiving Alice Training annually since 2019.
