Student Password Change Enhancement

March 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Subject: Important Security Update - Student-Created Passwords

To enhance cybersecurity, we're shifting to student-created passwords. This aligns with leading experts like the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ensuring stronger and more memorable passwords.  Please note that this change allows students, currently grades 9-12, to change their passwords if they wish, it is not required; recommended, but not required.

How Do They Change Their Password?
Instructions can be found at this link.

Why the Change?

Better Defense:

Student-created passwords meet or exceed NIST guidelines, providing better defense against cyber threats.

User-Friendly:

Students tend to remember and use passwords they create, reducing the risk of forgotten or weak passwords.

NIST Guidelines:

NIST recommends user-chosen passwords for their memorability and security.

Action Steps:

Encourage Strong Passwords. Discuss the importance of strong, unique passwords with your child.

Report Concerns:

If you notice anything suspicious, report it to our IT support.
