Substitute Information


Are you interested in becoming a substitute? Not sure if you'd like to become a Classified or Licensed Substitute? What's the difference between both? Well, let me provide you some information that will hopefully guide you to the right path.



Licensed Substitute:
*Allows you to substitute for teachers 

* Must get fingerprinted and pass a background check. COST average $54.50

*Have a current substitute authorization issued by CDE (Colorado Department of Education).

                * CDE has 3 different authorization:

*1-year authorization, must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent, and have experience working with children. COST $60.00

*3-year authorization, must hold a bachelor's degree in any content area from a regionally accredited college or university. COST $90.00

*5-year authorization, must hold or have held a Colorado teacher license or hold a current out-of-state teacher license/certificate. COST $90.00

*Submit an application to Montrose County School District

*The pay for a licensed substitute is $130.00 for the full day and $65.00 for the half day


Classified Substitute:

*Allows you to sub in for paraprofessionals, secretaries, classroom aids, and custodial

* Must get fingerprinted and pass a background check. COST average $54.50

*Submit an application to Montrose County School District

*The pay for classified substitutes is $13.65 an hour

Step into substitute teaching with confidence and support! The Substitute Boot Camp is a FREE, virtual course specifically designed to support, assist and encourage substitute teachers with starting their first day on the job.  The Substitute Boot Camp is an excellent resource for licensed substitute teachers and individuals who are in-process of obtaining their substitute authorization.
